Extreme Sports vs Adventure Sports
Extreme and adventure sports… is there even a difference? I had that exact question!
When I first
started extreme sports, I thought they were one and the same, but later I found
out that was not the case.
Although very
similar, there are small differences between the two, which may look small from
the outside but outline a clear separation between both types of sports.
So, what’s
the difference?
Glad you
asked! Both types of sport have an element of risk to them, however, extreme
sports are usually much greater. Most adventure sports can be enjoyed by
beginners with supervision from a trained coach and with safety equipment, for
example, climbing. Whereas extreme sports often take years to master and have
little safety protocol, for example, cliff jumping. This requires a wee bit
more expertise, physical capability… and courage!
What should I
start with?
If you’re
looking for a thrilling experience straight out the gate that is beginner
friendly, adventure sports are for you! This includes white water rafting all
the way to skydiving (if you’re daring enough). However, if you’re looking for something
more challenging and already have a strong physical base from previous sports
then extreme sports may be for you. Patience is crucial, as it may take a long
time to work your way up to the skill level you need to perform in some of
these sports. You never start off doing the things you see on YouTube!
Is one
better than the other?
No, it
really depends on what you’re looking to get out of the sports. Both have their
own strengths and maybe some are more appealing to you than others. Regardless of
which type you prefer; you will get that rush of adrenaline and thrill out of
both types of sport.
That begs
the question, which one would you choose?
